{"id":2691,"date":"2021-06-18T09:09:53","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T07:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nordu.net\/major-step-forward-gren\/"},"modified":"2021-06-18T09:09:53","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T07:09:53","slug":"major-step-forward-gren","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nordu.net\/major-step-forward-gren\/","title":{"rendered":"Major step forward for the GREN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORDUnet is excited to learn about a major advance in high-speed research and education networks in the Asia Pacific Oceania region, undertaken by eleven global leaders in R&amp;E networking from around the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aponet.global\/\">Asia Pacific Oceania network (APOnet)<\/a>&nbsp;collaboration will connect East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and North America.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>APOnet is the successor to the Asia-Pacific Ring (APR) collaboration, significantly enlarging the shared intercontinental infrastructure for Research &amp; Education across the Pacific Ocean, as part of the Global Research &amp; Education Network (GREN). APOnet is similar to the Advanced North-Atlantic (ANA) Collaboration, to which NORDUnet is a partner, and shows what willing and able R&amp;E Networks can do together, synchronizing and leveraging each other\u2019s investments in connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The networks and organizations involved&nbsp;in APOnet&nbsp;are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Australia\u2019s Academic and Research Network&nbsp;<strong>(AARNet)<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Arterial Research and Educational Network in Asia-Pacific&nbsp;<strong>(ARENA-PAC),<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development d\/b\/a&nbsp;<strong>(Internet2),&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information&nbsp;<strong>(KISTI),<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>National Institute of Information and Communications Technology&nbsp;<strong>(NICT),<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>National Institute of Informatics&nbsp;<strong>(NII),&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Singapore Advanced Research and Education Network<strong>&nbsp;(SingAREN),<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pacific Wave<\/strong>&nbsp;International Exchange<\/li>\n<li>Research and Education Advanced Network New Zealand&nbsp;<strong>(REANNZ)<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>TransPAC<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>University of Hawaii&nbsp;<strong>(UH)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/madmimi.com\/p\/4490821?pact=648148-163645216-8982799409-2c1e7288ff2b4532290da611f9edec5183448852\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NORDUnet is excited to learn about a major advance in high-speed research and education networks in the Asia Pacific Oceania region, undertaken by eleven global leaders in R&amp;E networking from around the Pacific Ocean.
